The concept of ScotLIS
can be traced back almost 10 years and arose out of a number of
initiatives designed to take advantage of the developing new technology
to deliver information and services to a wider audience. One of
these was the Citizens Charter which contained a commitment
to allow UK citizens “faster and easier access to an authoritative,
accurate, and comprehensive public record of all land and property”
While much work has
been done in developing the concept by a number of interested
parties, the delivery of such a service has until now been difficult
to achieve. It was decided that the best way forward was to create
a pilot ScotLIS service based primarily on land and property information
related to the Glasgow area. In 1999, funds were made available
from the governments Invest to Save initiative and this
has part-funded the more recent project works.
